The path to product design
Hi, I’m Kelly, an LA-based, Product Designer with a background spanning apparel, home, and digital experiences. Over a 15+ year career, I designed products that generated over $150M in sales before shifting toward designing systems, services, and interactions. The transition felt natural once I realized the same design thinking drives both physical and digital products.
Early creative roots
I grew up in Miami, surrounded by layered cultures, bold color, and visual contrast that shaped how I see form, texture, and composition. Creating always felt instinctive, long before it became a career. Fashion became my first design language because it balanced creativity with real world constraints.
across coasts and continents
I built my fashion career across New York, Florida, and Southern California, designing women’s apparel for brands with 300–500+ store footprints. I led end-to-end design across multiple categories, collaborating with merchandising, fabric, and production teams to deliver seasonal collections year after year. Working directly with 15+ mills and factories across Hong Kong, China, Sri Lanka, and India sharpened my systems thinking and cross-functional problem solving.
Expansion into home design
During the pandemic, I transitioned into home fashions, serving as Senior Design Director and launching a private-label brand that drove a 5–12% month-over-month sales lift. I led national design workshops for 200–300 attendees, created training materials, and shaped visual storytelling distributed across a 1,500-territory franchise network. This work strengthened my ability to communicate design decisions at scale and think holistically about user environments.
Shift into digital product design
As digital experiences became central to everyday life, my focus shifted toward how products guide, support, and empower users. I recognized that usability, aesthetics, and empathy are the same principles I had applied to physical products for years. That realization led me into UX and product design.
Where I am now
Today, I’m based in LA, designing digital products grounded in research, strategy, and clear visual systems. I’ve led user research, journey mapping, and prototyping for mobile-first experiences, validating solutions through usability feedback. Creating thoughtful products that improve real interactions continues to confirm this is the right path forward.
